The Department of Biology of the Caraga State University offers both undergraduate (Bachelor of Science in Biology) and graduate-level programs (Master of Science in Biology) with different specializations. These programs are designed for students who want to have a focused and in-depth foundation in essential concepts, principles, and theories of biological sciences. The program aims to produce productive and competitive researchers, practitioners, and educators in biodiversity and conservation, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, and health sciences, particularly medicine.
The department provides the students with quality and relevant instruction and learning materials through scientifically trained instructors and professors, the majority of which were equipped with national and international scholarships and training to pursue graduate degrees. The current faculty roster comprises 31% full-fledged PhDs, 55% full-fledged MS, and 14% with on-going MS degree. Many of these faculty are involved in relevant researches in health, biodiversity, and environmental studies and have published their research outputs in reputable national and international scientific journals. Through the years, the Department had witnessed many changes and milestones. In 2015, the Department was granted with the status of ”Center of Development” in Biology by the Commission on Higher Education. Moreover, it continues to strive to provide quality education and research with holistic and innovative approach in the field of Biology towards internationalization and inclusive development.
